Company:
Victorinox was founded in 1884 by Karl Elsener I in his culter's workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland. The company's name is derived from the amalgamation of Elsener's mother's name, Victoria, and "Inox," the international term for stainless steel. Victorinox is now managed by the fourth generation of the Elsener family; the comapny celebrated its 130th year anniversary in 2014.

Review:
The Victorinox Spartan in Silver Tech is a robust, durable and functional Swiss pocket knife. It is a slightly longer knife (the pictures in this review show it side-by-side with a Victorinox Midnite MiniChamp, Cadet Alox, and Climber respectively), but it is not overly large, and it feels lightweight. The stainless steel tools are sturdy and hold up to daily wear: the blades are quite sharp, the can openers and screwdrivers work well, and the tweezers and toothpick are practical and discretely tucked into the body of the knife. The tools in the knife require little maintenance but can be occasionally cleaned with water and minimal soap without losing too much of their luster. In addition, the Silver Tech version of the knife has a unique utilitarian appearance that may appeal to collectors and casual users alike.

While all of the tools in the Spartan are functional, scissors are not included (they are, however, included in other Victorinox Swiss Army Pocket Knives, such as the Climber). This would be one consideration that may reduce the "everyday carry" appeal of the knife for some. In addition, the tools of the knife may attract fingerprints, but this can usually be wiped off with relative ease. Nevertheless, the Spartan is an impressive knife for its price and has 12 tools that render it feasible for everyday use.

For the aforementioned reasons, the Victorinox Spartan in Silver Tech is recommended by Lion Stationers. It can be purchased from the following vendors:
