The Pilot Vanishing Point is a unique and reliable retractable fountain pen. The pen has an internal mechanism that closes when the nib is retracted, preventing the nib from drying out. The Vanishing Point comes with an 18-k gold nib that writes quite smoothly, although some of the nibs have a tendency to have "nib creep" (ink visible on the nib even when the nib is not in use), but this is relatively mild and should not result in major leakage. There have also been reports of issues with nib flow after not being used for long periods, but this has not been our experience. The pen's clip is secure and sturdy enough to be clipped to pant or shirt pockets, and the design of the pen allows the pen to be clipped with the nib portion facing upwards, thus preventing leakage downward into shirt or pant pockets.
