San Jose Sharks 5, Detroit Red Wings 0 (Game 57)

5/10/2020
The Sharks (55-1-0) visited the Joe Louis Arena for their third meeting of the season with the Detroit Red Wings (30-19-7). The Sharks won the first meeting of the season 5-2 in Detroit, with Teemu Selanne and Patrick Marleau scoring two goals each, and Evgeni Nabokov posting 33 saves on 35 shots (the Sharks outshot Detroit 37-35). The Sharks were 2/5 on the powerplay while the Red Wings were 1/2, with Nicklas Lidstrom scoring on a wraparound goal midway through the 3rd period.

The second meeting took place at HP Pavilion in San Jose, with the Sharks winning 7-1. Evgeni Nabokov saved 18 of 19 shots, and several Sharks had a multi-point game, including Marco Sturm with a goal and an assist, and Alexander Korolyuk posting two goals and an assist. The Sharks outshot the Red Wings 33-18 en route to their 46th victory of the season.

During this meeting, Vesa Toskala started in net for the Sharks against Curtis Joseph for the Red Wings. Toskala stopped all 29 shots he faced. Patrick Marleau provided two assists and Marco Sturm scored two goals as the Sharks outshot the Red Wings 31-29 and shut out Detroit for the first time this season. Detroit launched a flurry of shots on goal during each of their 4 powerplays, but the Sharks' defense, backstopped by Toskala, denied Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan and Brett Hull on each scoring chance Detroit had. The Sharks improved to 3-0 against Detroit this season, outscoring the Red Wings in aggregate 17-3.

The Sharks now travel to Nationwide Arena to face off against the host Columbus Blue Jackets, whom the Sharks are undefeated against this season. The Sharks will carry their current 49-game winning streak into the contest.
