The Sharks then opened the 2nd period with back-to-back powerplay goals by Marco Sturm and Adam Graves, followed by goals by Lynn Loyns and Brad Stuart to take a 7-1 lead into the 3rd period. The Sharks were outshooting Edmonton 20-13 and converted on 4/5 powerplays going into the 3rd period.
The third period saw the highest scoring of the season for the Sharks, with San Jose registering seven goals and Edmonton registering three for a total of ten goals scored in the 3rd period.
